Classical chamber music incubator and presenter Guarneri Hall NFP will resume in-person events in September 2021, starting with NEXUS Chamber Music Chicago September 17th
The concert on September 17th entitled From Isolation is inspired by the dramatic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the lives of all who perform. The program will add players to the stage one by one, beginning with violinist Rubén Rengel’s reading of Eugène Ysaÿe’s pyrotechnical Ballade. Next, violinist Brian Hong and cellist Alexander Hersh will take the stage to perform Duo, written by Jesse Montgomery in 2015. The composer calls this work an “ode to friendship.” Paul Wiancko’s A Sanguine Clockwork for String Trio follows, with Rengel and Hersh joined by violist Ayane Kozasa (wife of the composer). To close, all four artists will join together in a performance of the monumental Quartet No. 8 in C Minor, Op. 110 by Dimitri Shostakovich, dedicated by the composer to the victims of fascism and war. The NEXUS co-artistic directors will dedicate this performance as a memorial to those lost to Covid-19.
The concert will be the first live show in Guarneri Hall after a long COVID hiatus. Guarneri Hall was purpose-built as an optimal environment for capturing audiophile-quality sound recording and high definition multi-camera video of live acoustic performances. Guarneri Hall has seen its mission as a facilitator and catalyst for classical music shift to focus on video production during the pandemic. Guarneri Hall has been busy producing digital content for many in the classical music community here in Chicago and beyond throughout the past year and a half. Like all presenting organizations we are excited to return to in-person concerts.
Concert listings and tickets for Guarneri Hall’s entire 2021-22 season are available here. Through 8/31/21, concert-goers can take advantage of build-your-own subscription discounts($20 off 3 concerts or $40 off 6 concerts, general admission).
