Guarneri Hall NFP today announced its 2022-23 Season, 16 events featuring a mix of established stars and rising artists playing in the unique intimacy of Chicago’s Guarneri Hall.
The season launches on August 27, 2022, and runs through April 2023, with a total of ten concerts, four master classes, and two open rehearsals.
Admired Artists
The season features a number of established artists with a global following. Pianist Orion Weiss will bring his lush sound and deep, interpretive voice to Guarneri Hall for a program of Brahms and Tchaikovsky. Violinist Timothy Chooi, second-place winner at Belgium’s 2019 Queen Elisabeth Competition, will make his Guarneri Hall debut.
Violinist Maria Ioudenitch and pianist Evren Ozel will join forces for a program including works by Ravel, Gershwin, Chopin, and William Grant Still. Mark Kosower, principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra, will perform Schubert’s Cello Quintet with the newly formed Soto Quartet, four rising musicians from Venezuela. Trio Ad Libitum, another newly formed ensemble of Marlboro Music Festival Alumni, will debut in Guarneri Hall with a program of Martinu, Francaix and Beethoven.
Chicago-Based Musical Stars
The coming season will also showcase Chicago-based musical luminaries. NEXUS Chamber Music will return to Guarneri Hall for their Fifth Annual Chamber Music Festival, featuring two open rehearsals and a concert entitled “Dumkas and Furiants.” The violin-piano duo Yang and Olivia will bring their unique mix of Chinese folk and western classical music to Guarneri Hall. Pianist Yuri Tanaka, winner of First Prize at the 2022 Aeolian Classics Competition, will perform an evening of Chopin. Violinist and Guarneri Hall NFP Artistic Director Stefan Hersh will join with NEXUS Chamber Music’s Brian Hong and Alexander Hersh in a celebration of Mozart’s birthday. Harpsichordist Stephen Alltop and soprano Josefien Stoppelenburg will be joined by guest artists program in honor of J.S. Bach’s birthday.
Illuminating Master Classes
With its “pin-drop” acoustics, Guarneri Hall is an ideal environment for master classes. This season will give young Chicago area musicians the opportunity to perform for some of the most sought-after artist-teachers in the world. Violinists Margaret Batjer and Ben Sayevich, violist Paul Neubauer, and cellist Mark Kosower will each lead a master class in the 2022-2023 season.

“Even though we began presenting concerts in late 2018, our first full season was truncated by the pandemic, so this will be our first complete season series,” said Stefan Hersh, Guarneri Hall’s Artistic Director. “We’ve scheduled concerts and master classes featuring truly varied and dynamic artists, with programs curated to take full advantage of the incredible acoustics of Guarneri Hall. I am personally looking forward to welcoming our loyal supporters and newcomers to each and every event.”
