On Friday, April 18, 2025, just before 10:00 p.m., Trooper Walters was patrolling Interstate 65 near the 175 mile marker when he was advised by Sgt. Schaefer that, while conducting a separate traffic stop, a motorcycle with no taillights accelerated northbound at a high rate of speed.
Trooper Walters observed the motorcycle near the 180 mile marker, traveling over 100 mph in a 70 mph zone and still operating without taillights. He attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the motorcycle failed to stop and continued northbound on I-65. Trooper Walters pursued the motorcycle to the 188 mile marker, where he terminated the pursuit. Region 1 dispatch then alerted surrounding law enforcement agencies.
Shortly after, a Remington Police Officer observed a motorcycle matching the suspect’s description exit I-65 near the 201 mile marker onto US 24, still without taillights. The motorcycle pulled into a gas station, where the officer conducted a traffic stop.
Trooper Walters arrived on scene and confirmed that he believed both the motorcycle and the rider matched those involved in the earlier pursuit. The rider, identified as James Jenkins, 38, of Remington, was taken into custody. During a search, Trooper Walters located two firearms and suspected marijuana in Jenkins’ possession. Jenkins was transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail.
