Chicago-based Fat Theatre Project announces the cast and production team for its upcoming production of The InterPlays, a compilation of short plays by Eileen Tull, Sarah Katherine Bowden, Allison Fradkin, and Melody DeRogatis.
The cast includes: Joel Cordova, Lenci Davis, Kit Kelly, and Amanda “Mandie” Greenwood. Dina Perez will understudy all roles.
Company member Melody DeRogatis will direct, with Madison Wohlfeil as the Assistant Director.
The InterPlays is a series of short plays focused on dating and romantic relationships. When the plays are put together, they tell a story of love and its many facets and phases. The InterPlays will celebrate the throes and joys of love - in all of its shapes and sizes.
“I’m excited to shed more of a spotlight on fat joy for theatre-going audiences,” Director Melody DeRogatis says. “The InterPlays is an exploration of dating and relationships while fat– but moreso, it’s about navigating the mystery that is love– something I think people can relate to at any size.”
This is Fat Theatre Project’s first full production, after a series of readings and workshops earlier in 2024. Founded by Eileen Tull, Fat Theatre Project seeks to tell stories by/about/with/for fat people. The company has plans to produce work that specifically addresses living in a fat body, while also presenting stories that are not textually about fatness, such as The InterPlays. Fat Theatre Project has previously been featured in the Chicago Reader and American Theatre.
The InterPlays will be performed at the Berger Park Coach House, 6205 N. Sheridan Rd, on August 9, 10, 12, 17, 24 at 7:30 PM, August 11 at 2 PM, and August 18 and 25 at 2 and 4:30 PM. Tickets are being offered at a suggested $15 donation.
