EXPO CHICAGO has revealed the first details of its 2025 edition, taking place April 24 – 27, 2025, at Navy Pier’s Festival Hall with Northern Trust as Presenting Sponsor. Now in its second year as part of the Frieze network, EXPO CHICAGO will feature more than 170 leading galleries from 36 countries and 93 cities. New initiatives for 2025 include a major new partnership with the Galleries Association of Korea, as well as CONTRAST, a new section developed by Lauren Haynes. These will be presented alongside the fair’s core Galleries section and a compelling array of projects including the fair’s much-celebrated EXPOSURE, PROFILE and IN/SITU sections, as well as this year’s Special Exhibitions, and Editions + Books.
“Looking ahead to the 2025 edition of EXPO CHICAGO, we’re excited to showcase an incredible lineup of curatorial talent, gallery presentations, special projects, and collaborations aimed at engaging new audiences,” said Tony Karman, President and Director of EXPO CHICAGO. “With the continued support of Northern Trust, EXPO CHICAGO remains a vital hub for collectors, artists, curators, architects, designers and all those passionate about art.”
"As we enter the second year of EXPO CHICAGO as part of Frieze, we are proud to expand on new initiatives, including a significant collaboration with Korea, made possible through Frieze’s global reach,” said Kristell Chadé, Executive Director of Fairs at Frieze. “We look forward to presenting a dynamic selection of artists and exhibitors, while exploring how the cross-pollination between our fairs can add value to each, fostering new connections and opportunities across regions.”
Curator-Led Initiatives
Building on the fair’s strong foundations, the 2025 fair will feature a series of bold curator-led initiatives.
-
Lauren Haynes, Head Curator, Governors Island Arts and Vice President for Arts and Culture at the Trust for Governors Island, will organize a new section of galleries and artist presentations, titled CONTRAST. Participating galleries include GRAY, Jenkins Johnson Gallery, The Melrose Gallery, and Pippy Houldsworth Gallery.
-
Rosario Güiraldes, Curator of Visual Arts at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, will return for the second year to lead EXPOSURE, spotlighting solo and two-artist presentations from galleries ten years and younger. This year’s focus includes galleries from Latin America, particularly Argentina and Brazil, alongside emerging Chicago-based galleries.
-
Jessica S. Hong, newly appointed Chief Curator at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, MO, will curate IN/SITU, featuring large-scale installations and site-specific works at Navy Pier. The program will highlight artists working in collaborative and intergenerational practices, exploring themes of exchange and tradition.
New Partnership with the Galleries Association of Korea
In a significant new partnership, EXPO CHICAGO will introduce a collaboration with the Galleries Association of Korea (GaoK), to present a selection of 20 leading Korean galleries within the fair’s core Galleries section. This initiative, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Korea Arts Management Service, builds on the successful synergy between Kiaf SEOUL and Frieze Seoul.
HWANG Dalseung, President of the Galleries Association of Korea, said, “We plan to support 20 major galleries in Korea to enter the Chicago art market on behalf of the association and Korea in various ways together with the government. This event was based on the synergy between Kiaf SEOUL and Frieze Seoul, which have already created a new model of win-win through fair-to-fair collaboration in the contemporary art market, where various entities are collaborating in various ways, and this time we will take the first step towards the internationalization of Korean art distribution with EXPO CHICAGO.”
Confirmed participants in Highlights of the Gaok collaboration are Gallery Baton, BHAK, Gana Art, Keumsan Gallery, Sun Gallery, ONE AND J. Gallery, PYO Gallery, and 313 Art Project.
