Chesterton Art Center (CAC) presents a thought-provoking exhibition titled Polly and Her Dad by Valparaiso, IN-based artists Billy and Polly Pozzo, on display from January 16 through March 1, 2025. Billy creates large graphite and painted portraits of friends and loved ones, paintings of pop culture icons and album covers, small satirical sculptures, large-scale uncanny figurative sculptures, and meticulous dioramas. He draws inspiration from music, popular culture, loss, and the people who surround him—especially Polly. Polly lives with a form of Muscular Dystrophy, and although she is not able to walk or speak, Polly creates beautiful, energetic paintings with assistance from her dad.
Since her mother passed when she was three, Polly can often be found in the studio with her dad where they learn and make art together. “I can’t make the paintings without her, and she can’t make the paintings without me. I love them more than my own artwork because we make them together,” says Billy. Through their work, this combined exhibition explores the profound themes of family, love, healing, and preconceived notions of creativity and ability.
“Polly’s vibrant, abstract paintings paired with her father’s works bring amazing energy to our galleries and share their story of unconditional love and the power of art to connect us all, “says CAC Executive Director Hannah Hammond-Hagman, “This exhibition will resonate with all viewers.”
The public is invited to meet the artists at a reception on Saturday January 25th from 12 to 2PM. On Saturday February 8th at noon, Billy Pozzo will discuss his and Polly’s artworks and practices after a screening of the documentary film titled “Billy and Polly Paint” directed by Leslie Nuss. This short documentary depicts the artist duo creating together in the studio. All events are free, and all are welcome.
