For the fourth straight year, the Munster Police Department will be encouraging residents to organize town-wide block parties on Saturday, August 1st (rain date the following day) in advance of this year’s National Night Out Celebration that is taking place the following Tuesday evening. Neighborhood blocks or subdivisions are encouraged to organize block parties to promote unity amongst their neighbors that afternoon and evening. To encourage participation, the Munster Town Council has waived all associated fees for block parties for that day only.
This year, parties will be visited by appointment by larger groups of police department representatives (plus the usual Munster firefighters) who will go around throughout the afternoon and evening to visit each of the parties throughout town to interact with the public in a positive way and to also select the winners of this year’s BLOCK UNITY AWARDS. The winners will be presented with signs at the National Night Out Celebration on August 4th which will be posted in their neighborhoods on a later date.
Participating blocks or subdivisions MUST RSVP BY NO LATER THAN JULY 1ST by emailing Sergeant James Ghrist at jghrist@munster.org with your contact person, location, contact number/email, requested visit/time (first come/first serve—visits will be approximately 20-30 minutes depending on the number of participating neighborhoods), and the timespan of your party. All parties must end by 10:00pm.
Please contact Sgt. Ghrist with any questions. Thank you in advance for your participation this year!
