Dunes Learning Center, in partnership with Wilderness Medical Associates International, is thrilled to announce the upcoming Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification course. The course will be held from March 25-29, 2024 and is open for enrollment now.
The WFR certification is a comprehensive training program designed for those who require the ability to handle emergency situations in remote settings. This includes professional guides, trip leaders, search and rescue team members, outdoor enthusiasts, and world travelers.
This unique training approach combines online learning with five days of intensive, hands-on instruction at Dunes Learning Center inside Indiana Dunes National Park. Participants will learn how to provide effective care in wilderness conditions where access to medical care is delayed or communication is unreliable.
The course fee includes expert instruction, textbooks, equipment use, certification, and continuing education credits. The WFR credential is good for two years. Participants are advised to enroll as soon as possible to ensure ample time to complete the e-learning section before the in-person training.
The course will feature engaging lectures, practical skills exercises, and patient simulations, conducted both indoors and outdoors, despite weather conditions.
