SYNOPSIS – MARY PAGE MARLOWE
From the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of August: Osage County, Killer Joe, and Superior Donuts, Tracy Letts illuminates both pivotal and mundane moments from Mary Page Marlowe’s life and what emerges is a mosaic of a surprisingly complicated woman. Mary Page Marlowe is an accountant from Ohio. She’s led an ordinary life, making the difficult decisions we all face as we try to figure out who we really are and what we really want. Intimate and moving, Mary Page Marlowe shows us how circumstance, impulse, and time can combine to make our lives complete mysteries … even to ourselves. Nine actors portray the title character as she moves from age 12 to 69; and a fragile family quilt is assembled piecemeal over time, stitched together haphazardly as the story unfolds. The Drama Group invites you to come “fill in the gaps” and witness this elliptical drama about the evolutions, reversals, and resurrections in a woman’s life.

Chuck Cairns has been smitten with Mary Page Marlowe since seeing the premiere at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago. He has been waiting for a chance to mold this scrapbook into an unforgettable experience for the audience as well as the actors in this transformative ensemble piece. Chuck has been on a six-year directing hiatus since his work on God of Carnage for The Drama Group. Some unique aspects of this production include “in-the-round” staging, projections, and an original score by Mark Jancosek.
In keeping with The Drama Group’s Community Outreach programs, The Drama Queens of the Tears & Tulle Movement will sponsor a donation drive to benefit SOUTH SUBURBAN FAMILY SHELTER in Homewood, currently celebrating 40 years of service to the surrounding communities.
