Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter is pleased to announce the promotion of Detective Ben Rector to the rank of Sergeant. In his new role, Sergeant Rector will serve as the Investigation Squad Leader of the Lafayette District Criminal Investigation Division.
Sergeant Rector, a 13-year veteran of the Indiana State Police, was selected for this promotion based on a competitive process that included written testing, an oral interview, years of service, education, and past job performance.
Rector, a native of Madison County, Indiana, graduated from Alexandria High School. He continued his education at Purdue University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision in 2009. He graduated from the 70th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in March of 2011 and was initially assigned to the Lafayette District.
During his tenure at the Lafayette District, Rector served as a Field Training Officer (FTO), K-9 Handler, and a member of the Mobile Field Force. In 2017, he was promoted to detective and has since played a critical role in numerous investigations. Notably, Sergeant Rector was the 2023 IPAC Officer of the Year.
Rector is known for his preparedness, thoroughness, and impeccable work ethic. His dedication to duty and professionalism have earned him respect from his peers, superiors, and the community he serves.
In his new position, Sergeant Rector will lead other detectives, where his extensive experience and leadership skills will greatly benefit the Lafayette District Criminal Investigation Division.
