On May 22nd, Munster Police Department D.A.R.E. Officers Ghrist & Cooley brought the drunk driving simulation carts out to St. Thomas More School as a teaching experience for the 8th grade students.

The students rode through a course and then did so again while wearing "drunk goggles" which simulate the impaired vision of a driver who is in between .08-.15 BAC. The purpose of the activity is for the students to see how dangerous impaired driving can be for drivers and for others around them.
Thank you to Lt. Broelmann, Officer Baran, and Officer Gomez for stopping out to assist with the activity and to the school for allowing us to provide this presentation to the students.
These carts were generously sponsored several years ago by the Rotary Club of Munster, Indiana and American Community Bank in Munster and are used during 8th grade D.A.R.E. classes and various community events throughout the year to help encourage safety, especially among our youth.
