The Schaumburg Boomers scored in each of the first three innings and Cole Cook did the rest as the team steaked to a 10-0 win over the Evansville Otters on Wednesday night at Wintrust Field. The victory helped the Boomers maintain a two-game lead in the West Division with 10 games remaining in the season.
Alec Craig led off the game with a single and swiped second base. Kyle Fitzgerald notched an RBI double to put the Boomers on the board. Anthony Calarco doubled home Fitzgerald as the Boomers led 2-0. Two more runs came across in the second on RBI singles from Craig and Calarco. The Boomers really broke the game open in the third with three additional runs. Kai Moody plated Alex Calarco with a double before Craig and Fitzgerald tacked on RBI singles to push the lead to 7-0. Schaumburg put two more on the board in the sixth and added a run in the seventh to go up 10-0.
The run support was plenty for Cook on the mound. The third-year member of the Boomers went the distance in tossing his second complete game shutout of the season, allowing just four hits with a pair of walks. The lefty finished the game with 10 strikeouts and recorded 14 groundball outs to win his eighth of the season. Cook sat down 10 consecutive batters from the third into the sixth. The offense received contributions up and down the lineup. Anthony Calarco was not retired in the game, finishing with four hits, two RBIs and a walk. Craig notched four hits as well out of the leadoff slot. Fitzgerald and Moody both finished with three hits.
The Boomers (51-41) continue the final homestand of the regular season with Thursday Night Baseball presented by the Kenneth Young Center tomorrow night at 6:30pm.
