An experienced healthcare leader has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Community Hospital.

“I am pleased to announce that Randy Neiswonger has accepted the position of chief executive officer for Community Hospital, effective July 11,” said Donald P. Fesko, CEO, Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana, Inc., parent company of Community Healthcare System. “Randy brings extensive, well-rounded leadership qualities to his role as CEO. His initiative and foresight will serve our patients well in maintaining Community Hospital’s position as Northwest Indiana’s leading healthcare provider.”

Before joining Community Hospital, Neiswonger has held executive leadership positions in hospital operations and patient care, including recent oversight of University of Chicago Medicine's Community Hospital and Health Division. He brings more than 15 years of expertise in patient-centered care, physician relations, strategic planning, operational excellence and employee engagement.

Neiswonger earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing, a master’s in acute care nurse practitioner and an MBA from University at Buffalo, State University of New York.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as CEO of Community Hospital and continue my mission to make a positive impact in the lives of patients,” Neiswonger said. “I look forward to becoming part of the fabric of this community as we continue to care for our friends, families and neighbors.”

Community Hospital is part of Community Healthcare System along with St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart and Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center in Crown Point.

Neiswonger succeeds Community Hospital CEO Luis Molina, who is retiring after serving as a Northwest Indiana healthcare leader for 35 years. Prior to his CEO duties, Molina served as chief financial officer at Community Hospital, and previously at St. Mary Medical Center, St. Catherine Hospital. He also played a foundational role in the development of Community Care Network, Inc., the healthcare system’s physician network

Community Hospital operates the area’s most advanced cardiovascular, neuroscience and cancer treatment programs. The hospital has become a recognized leader as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, and for its complex heart, valve and vascular surgeries, cardiovascular and vascular research trials and cardiac rehab services. The hospital also supports the area’s largest cancer research program, linked to the National Cancer Institute and major research cooperatives in the U.S. and Canada. Neurosurgery, including deep brain stimulation, neonatal intensive care, orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation services and a medically based fitness center are other examples of the hospital’s advanced healthcare treatment capabilities.

As a non-profit facility, Community Hospital also offers numerous free programs, special events, preventive screenings and support groups that help to improve the quality of life in Northwest Indiana.
