Chicago Fire FC will kick off the Club’s 25th season in MLS against Inter Miami CF on Saturday, Feb. 26, at DRV PNK Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Beginning at 5:00 p.m. CT, the match will be broadcast live on WGN-TV and CFFC Live.
Led by Ezra Hendrickson in his MLS head coaching debut, the 2022 Fire team will feature a new-look roster, highlighted by Designated Player Xherdan Shaqiri. The Swiss international is one of the latest signings in an active transfer window for the Fire, including additions such as longtime Bundesliga defender Rafael Czichos, Polish striker and MLS veteran Kacper Przybyłko and Mexican winger Jairo Torres, who will join the Club on May 1.
Leading into the season opener, the Fire will formally introduce Shaiqri in a press conference on Monday, Feb. 21 at 11:00 a.m. in downtown Chicago. Media members interested in attending must RSVP with Elizabeth Sanchez (esanchez@chicagofirefc.com). Those unable to attend in-person may participate via Zoom by registering here.
The 2022 season opener will mark the third all-time meeting between Chicago and Inter Miami and second in Fort Lauderdale. The regular season series between the two teams is currently tied at 1-1-0, with each side winning at home in 2021.
The Fire will make its 2022 home debut at Soldier Field against Orlando City SC on Saturday, March 5 at 5:00 p.m. CT, marking the earliest home opener in Club history. Tickets for the match are currently available for purchase here.
