United on Saturday. Midfielder Stanislav Ivanov provided the game-winning strike to tally his first career MLS goal, while 37-year-old defender Jonathan Bornstein notched his first goal of the season and the 11th of his MLS career.
With Hendrickson deploying the same backline for a third consecutive match, the Fire became just the eighth team in MLS history to start a season with three straight clean sheets. Additionally, 17-year-old Homegrown goalkeeper Gaga Slonina is now just one of six ‘keepers in MLS history to record three clean sheets in his team’s first three games. Overall, the Addison native has notched an impressive seven clean sheets in just 14 professional appearances for the Fire since making his debut in 2021.
Saturday’s game will be the 58th all-time regular season meeting between Chicago and Kansas City, with the Fire leading the series with a 26-19-12 record. The Fire will be looking to end a six-match winless streak against Kansas City and build on its 18-5-3 home record against the Western Conference side.
Sporting KC (1-2-0, 3 points) is coming off a 2-0 road loss to the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, marking its second defeat of the season. Coming off a 2021 season in which the team advanced to the Western Conference semifinals, SKC has lost two of its first three matches in 2022, opening the campaign with a 3-1 loss at Atlanta United FC before securing three points at home in a 1-0 win over Houston Dynamo FC the following weekend.
