The Chicago Fire continue to push for playoff contention as they take on CF Montréal this Saturday, Aug. 27 at Soldier Field. Beginning at 7:00 p.m. CT, the contest will be televised on WGN-TV and CF97 Live, and transmitted locally in Spanish on TUDN 1200 AM. Tickets are currently available for purchase here, and the first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive exclusive Soldier Field replicas.
Saturday’s upcoming match between Chicago and CF Montréal will be the first meeting of this season, and 24th overall between the two sides, with Chicago holding a record of 5-2-3 when hosting Montréal at home. The last time the two teams faced off in September 2021, Montréal found the edge by way of a goal from forward Romell Quioto and an unfortunate deflection and own goal for the Fire, giving the Canadian side the 2-0 victory at Stade Saputo in Montréal.
The Fire (8-12-6, 30 points) are coming off a 2-0 loss at home against reigning MLS Cup champions New York City FC (13-7-6, 45 points) on Sunday night. With the result, the Fire dropped to 12th in the Eastern Conference, with just four points separating them from a three-way tie for the seventh and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Sunday’s match was just the second loss for the Fire in its last seven games in league play, giving Chicago a 4-2-1 record since July 13.
CF Montréal (14-8-4, 46 points) are currently second in the Eastern Conference and are coming off a 4-0 home victory over the New England Revolution this past Saturday, extending their unbeaten streak to seven consecutive matches. Montréal’s matchup against the Revs featured a brace from Quioto, a penalty from Matko Miljevic and a goal from forward Kei Kamara, who is now the third-highest goal scorer in league history with 135 goals.
