Chicago Fire FC fell 3-1 against LAFC in a preseason match at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, Calif., earlier today in the team’s second match of the Coachella Valley Invitational.
Chicago broke through in the 21st minute when Andrew Gutman sent a ball from the left side to the near post where Fabian Herbers was making a run. Herbers connected with a header, sending it down, past Hugo Lloris into the lower left corner.
Goalkeeper Spencer Richey kept the score at 1-0 with a spectacular save in the 24th minute. LAFC crossed the ball in from the left into the box, where a forward came flying through the crowd to connect with the ball after it had bounced around in the midst of several players. Richey reacted well to redirect the ball and keep it outside of the goal line before Herbers tracked back to clear it away from danger.
LAFC leveled the score in the 42nd minute by way of 2023 MLS Golden Boot winner Denis Bouanga and the teams went into the half tied 1-1.
Bouanga once again proved dangerous, passing in a ball that Cristian Olivera sent into the net in the 62nd minute. LA scored their final goal of the match in the 72nd minute when Nathan Ordaz capitalized on a pass in from Matuesz Bogusz.
NEXT MATCH: Chicago will next face Minnesota United in the Club’s third match of the Coachella Valley Invitational at 4 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, Calif.
