Chicago Fire FC will go on the road to face New York City FC at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. CT, the match will be broadcast on WGN-TV, CFFC Live and TUDN 1200 AM.
Wednesday’s match against NYCFC (12-11-8, 44 points) will be the penultimate match of the 2021 regular season for the Fire (9-16-7, 34 points). The upcoming contest will be the third and final regular season meeting between Chicago and NYCFC, with the two previous matches taking place in Chicago. The two teams battled to a 0-0 draw at Soldier Field on Aug. 4 and met again on Sept. 29 when the Fire defeated NYCFC 2-0 at SeatGeek Stadium.
NYCFC is coming off a dramatic 6-0 win over D.C. United on Saturday at Yankee Stadium. Valentin Castellanos scored a brace to bring his season total to 15 goals, which helped NYCFC climb from beneath the line all the way to fifth place in the Eastern Conference race in the Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs. New York has just one loss on the season when playing at Yankee Stadium (5-1-1) and has managed to concede just three goals in the Bronx.
Playing its final home match of the 2021 season on Saturday, the Fire defeated Real Salt Lake 1-0 in front of 31,308 fans at Soldier Field. The attendance marked the third-largest in Club history and the most-attended Fire match since the inaugural 1998 campaign. Designated Player Robert Berić continued his hot streak, bagging his fifth goal in the Club’s last five games. With the win, Chicago has just one loss in its last six games (3-1-2), accumulating 11 points out of a possible 18 since Sept. 26.
