Chicago Fire FC will look to keep their playoff hopes alive this week as the team hits the road for consecutive away matches against the New England Revolution and the Columbus Crew.
Chicago’s match against New England is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at Gillette Stadium. Later in the week, Saturday’s match against Columbus is set for a 4:30 p.m. CT kickoff at Lower.com Field. Both matches will be broadcasted on WGN-TV and CF97 Live and will be transmitted locally in Spanish on TUDN 1200AM.
The Fire (8-6-13, 30 points) enter the week currently sitting in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, six points below the playoff line. Chicago heads to New England looking to snap a three-match winless streak following a 2-0 loss on Saturday night against CF Montreal at Soldier Field. Wednesday’s contest will mark the first meeting between the two teams this season, and the 32nd all-time meeting, with the Fire holding an all-time record of 27-24-16 against the Revolution.
The New England Revolution (8-10-8, 34 points) are also in the playoff hunt in a tightly-contested Eastern Conference table, sitting in ninth place and two points below Columbus for the seventh and final playoff spot. The Revolution are coming off a 4-0 loss against CF Montréal on Saturday, Aug. 20, and will be looking to respond against the L.A. Galaxy today, which is the beginning of a three-game homestand for the Revs. Led by Gustavo Bou and Carles Gil, the Revs were riding a five-game unbeaten streak prior to the loss against Montréal.
Currently sitting in the final playoff spot in the East, the Crew (8-12-6, 36 points) are riding a four-game unbeaten streak led by Colombian striker Cucho Hernández, who has scored eight goals in 10 games this season since signing with the club on July 2. Most recently, Columbus is coming off a 2-2 away draw against FC Cincinnati in which Columbus defender Steven Moreira scored the equalizer in the 90th minute to earn a point for the visitors. The Crew will face Inter Miami CF at home on Wednesday prior to Saturday’s match against Chicago.
The Fire currently have an all-time record of 27-23-22 against Columbus, with Saturday’s match marking the second meeting between the two teams meet this season. Both sides previously faced off at Soldier Field on July 9, with the Crew coming away with a 3-2 away win.
