Chicago Fire FC will play two away matches in five days this week, taking on the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday, May 18 before facing New York City FC on Sunday, May 22.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m. CT, Wednesday’s match at Red Bull Arena will be broadcast live on WGN-TV and CF97 Live and transmitted locally in Spanish on TUDN 1200 AM. The match against NYCFC will be played at Citi Field, beginning at 4:00 p.m. CT, and will be broadcast live on WGN-TV, CF97 Live and TUDN 1200 AM.
The Fire (2-5-4, 10 points) will begin a three-game road swing this week, marking the longest away stretch for the Club in 2022. Wednesday’s contest will be the second meeting between the Fire and the Red Bulls in 2022 and the 69th all-time matchup between the two teams. Despite falling 2-1 to the Red Bulls on April 30, the Fire lead the head-to-head series with a 32-23-13 all-time regular season record.
The Red Bulls (5-2-4, 19 points) are currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings, most recently earning a point in a 1-1 tie with the Philadelphia Union on May 14. The Red Bulls are unbeaten in their last seven matches across all competitions. However, while the team remains unbeaten on the road (5-0-1), the club is winless in its first five home games in the 2022 regular season (0-2-3, 3 points).
Sunday’s match will be the 17th all-time meeting between the Fire and NYCFC and the first of the 2022 campaign. Chicago won two of the three matchups between both Clubs in 2021, securing a win and a draw at home (1-0-1). Sitting in sixth place in the East, NYCFC (5-3-2, 17 points) is unbeaten in its last seven games across all competitions. Winning five of their first seven league matches in the Big Apple (5-1-1), NYCFC is currently tied for the most home wins in the league so far this season.
