Improductions, LLC and The Seedlings Theatre Company are proud to announce the Northwest Indiana debut of Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind with direction by Becky Jascoviak and Nelson Velazquez for two special engagements April 20th and April 27, 2023.

Having opened in 1988 and still playing today as the longest-running show in Chicago history and now making its way to venues in the Northwest Indiana region, Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind is an ensemble experiment in presenting "30 Plays in 60 Minutes." Each two-minute play is performed in random order with an interactive audience. An onstage 60-minute timer keeps everyone honest. This collection of 90 comic, tragic, political, personal, and abstract plays gives them the chance to program two unique evenings of 30 Neo-Futurist plays to reflect the lives and experiences of the ensemble.

The show will take place at two venues in Northwest Indiana: The Social Restaurant in Merrillville,IN on April 20th and The Design Barn in Hebron, IN on April 27th. Tickets are priced between $20 and $35, with dinner packages available for purchase. Ticket can be purchased online at https://toomuchlightnwi.com or in-person at each venue.

One of the unique aspects of the show is that the audience receives a program with all the play titles and an assigned number. Thirty numbered sheets of paper, each with a play title, will hang on a clothesline. The audience will shout out a number every two minutes, and a cast member will jump up to pull the numbered sheet with the cast then performing the corresponding play. The order of the plays will remain a mystery throughout the show to everyone involved.

Co-director Nelson Velazquez explains that the show is a perfect marriage between the scripted theatre and improv worlds.  He adds, " We could perform a play that is super serious right next a farcical play right afterwards. We also have some audience-interactive plays that will differ night to night. I love presenting this scripted work with an improv-flavor."  Co-director Becky Jascoviak adds that "the show is funny, it'll make you think, it might make you understand someone else's political views, and it'll keep you (and our actors) on their toes. Come create theatre together with us and have some great food in the process. See you at the show. "
