Chesterton Art Center will display a solo exhibition by Chicago-based artist Bryana Bibbs in both galleries from January 8 through February 29, 2024. Bibbs works at the intersection of textiles, painting, and community-based practices. Her solo show titled Changes will feature seventy-nine weavings from her Journal Series of 2020 documenting her personal experiences through woven pieces using wool, dried paint, flax recycled sari silk, degummed cocoons, and handmade fibers and yarns.
An artist reception will be held Saturday January 13 from 12-2 PM, and a gallery tour and talk with Bibbs is scheduled for Saturday February 10 from 1-2PM. Both events are free and open to the public. Bibbs will also host a public weaving workshop on Saturday February 10 from 10AM – 12PM at Chesterton Art Center, and registration information can be found at chestertonart.org.

Bibbs has exhibited her work throughout Chicago at ARC Gallery, Evanston Art Center, Tiger Strikes Asteroid Gallery, and Chicago Artists Coalition, as well as Brooklyn’s Room482 Gallery and most recently Portland, Maine’s Public Library. She works to create an intersection between comfort, reflection, and community impact through her studio practice that combines traditional and non-traditional materials and processes.
Founded in 2020, Bibbs’ We Were Never Alone Project, a weaving workshop series for victims and survivors of domestic violence, eliminates stigma and establishes a safe, supportive space to create art and share stories. “It is important to find areas that are welcoming and have enough privacy where we all feel comfortable enough to share our stories. Because I know how relaxing weaving can be, one of my goals for this project is to bring that relaxation into someone else’s life while creating a community, “says Bibbs of the project. A We Were Never Alone workshop will be held on Wednesday January 31 2-5PM at Three Moons Fiberworks located at 402 Broadway Avenue in Chesterton. Please contact CAC to RSVP for this special free workshop.
This exhibition and exhibition programming are generously supported by the Porter County Community Foundation.
Chesterton Art Center will also be hosting a Family Art Day on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 10AM-2PM. Family Art Day visitors will explore Bryana Bibbs’ Changes exhibition and create a series of projects inspired by Bibbs’ work. This is a free event and all ages are welcome, registration information can be found at chestertonart.org.
