Class: Creative Aging: Exploring Drawing and Creative Expression Through Art Journaling

When: Thursdays, February 27 – April 17, 2:30-4:00 PM

Ages: Adults

Chesterton Art Center (CAC) is thrilled to announce a free class for adults, “Creative Aging: Exploring Drawing and Creative Expression through Art Journaling.” This exciting new opportunity is made possible through a Lifelong Arts Indiana Fellowship awarded by the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) to Cara Schmitt, CAC Education Director.

During this 8-session, journal-based class, students will learn basic drawing fundamentals while exploring creative expression through a series of abstract and figurative prompts. Students will use a variety of drawing media, including pencil, colored pencil, and ink pen. Each session will provide new artistic challenges intended to help students develop their drawing abilities. Students participating in the class will work in a community setting—sharing supplies, enjoying the company of their peers, and discovering the joy of learning a new skill.

“I'm so excited to continue to be a part of this program. Creative aging is about more than just art—it's about empowering older adults to discover new pathways for self-expression, connection, and growth. By expanding opportunities for creativity, we are fostering a vibrant, resilient community,” said Cara Schmitt.

According to the IAC, “Lifelong Arts Indiana, a partnership between the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) Division of Aging and the Indiana Arts Commission is a learning opportunity for artists and aging services providers to develop their skills in providing creative experiences for older adults. The program equips participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide impactful creative experiences for older adults, ages sixty-five and older, and provides access to the funds to help make it happen.”

“Creative Aging: Exploring Drawing and Creative Expression through Art Journaling” starts on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Class sessions run from 2:30-4:00PM. To register please visit https://www.chestertonart.org/adult-classes-and-workshops/p/creative-agi...
