Tue, 08/17/2021 - 3:15pm by laughingcat

Dave Lasayko will be offering a Printing Cyanotypes Class beginning in September.  The cyanotype, invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel, is one of the oldest photographic processes. In many ways, cyanotype is an ideal entry into the world of alternative photographic processes.

In this four-week class, participants will learn to make cyanotypes from either traditional or digital negatives. In the latter case, participants will send digital files (of black and white photos) to the instructor ahead of time for printing. Students may also bring in flowers, leaves or other found objects if they so choose. Participants will also be able to explore the toning of cyanotypes to give hues other than the basic blue. This event image shows a cyanotype print stained with black tea.

Printing Cyanotypes will meet from 6pm to 8pm for (4) Mondays: September 13, 20, 27 and October 4. Tuition is $180 for non-members and $160 for current CAC members. There is a $15 supply fee that is due to the instructor at the first class.

All materials are provided, but students should bring pencils ( no pens ) and a notebook of some sort. Keeping good notes in the darkroom is extremely helpful in learning from one’s mistakes! Aprons and rubber gloves are optional as to the student’s preference.

Please know that we continue to keep your safety a priority by continuing to clean and sanitize all surfaces.  Per CDC guidelines, face masks are strongly recommended regardless of vaccination status.  Hand sanitizer will be available and social distancing will be practiced.  In addition, there will be no make-up days for missed classes due to COVID-19.

Registration can be made in person, over the phone or visit Eventbrite.com and search Chesterton Art Center.  Call the Art Center at (219) 926-4711 for more information.  The Chesterton Art Center is located at 115 S. 4th Street in Chesterton.  For a list of all classes offered at the Chesterton Art Center, please visit our website at www.chestertonart.org.
