Chesterton Art Center (CAC) is hosting its free Family Art Day on Saturday, November 12 from 10 AM to 2 PM CST. Kids and their favorite grown-ups are invited to participate anytime during those hours to tour the current exhibition and make art together. All ages are welcome and all materials are provided. While Family Art Day is free, please register at www.chestertonart.org/classes, or call (219) 926-4711 to reserve your family’s spaces.
During their visit, families will explore CAC's exhibit Mark My Words featuring the work of Amos Paul Kennedy Jr., a Detroit-based printer whose layered letterpress posters use patterns and words to inspire action. Also on display are zines, prints, artist books, and self-published works by artists, illustrators, and printers from across the region. Families will learn about and discuss the exhibited works with CAC staff and then move into the classroom space to create artwork using various printing processes, including monoprints, relief printing, and screen printing. All supplies are provided, and folks should dress for a bit of mess.
Chesterton Art Center’s free Family Art Days are an important initiative that works to tie together educational programming with CAC’s engaging exhibitions. “We welcome new and returning families to join us for this exciting event that showcases the special work of Kennedy and many local artists. It’s a wonderful way to spend a creative Saturday afternoon with friends and family, so come learn different printmaking processes together!” says Jillian Bridgeman, Program Director of Chesterton Art Center.
In addition to Family Art Days, CAC has implemented other free outreach programs including Teen Arts Group, School Group Art Visits, and a Youth Arts Outreach Program in partnership with the Duneland Boys & Girls Club and YMCA.
These outreach programs support CAC’s mission of creating accessible, enriching arts programming for the local community and beyond. Learn more about all of CAC’s outreach, education, and exhibitions at www.chestertonart.org, or call (219) 926-4711.
