Bring the whole family to Chesterton Art Center next free Family Art Day of 2024 on Saturday, February 3 from 10 AM to 2 PM CST. Kids and their favorite grown-ups are invited to participate anytime during those hours to tour the current exhibition and make art together. All ages are welcome and all materials are provided. While Family Art Day is free, please register at chestertonart.org/youth-and-teen-classes, or call (219) 926-4711 to reserve your family’s spaces.
With guidance from the CAC team, families will explore the solo exhibition Changes by Chicago-based artist Bryana Bibbs who works at the intersection of textiles, paintings, and community-based practices. ON view are seventy-nine weavings from Bibbs’ Journal series of 2020 that utilize a mix of materials including wool, dried paint, flax, recycled sari silk, degummed silk cocoons, and handmade fibers and yarns.
Visitors can then move into the classroom to create a series of projects inspired by Bibbs’ work. Projects will include cardboard loom + paper weaving, mixed media collage, and a coloring corner. All supplies provided, and you may want to dress for a mess!
Family Art Days build on our mission to create more accessible arts programming for the Duneland community and beyond. Come spend some relaxed, creative time with your family and learn more about all CAC offers. All are welcome.
Family Art Days are generously supported by Urschel Giving.
In addition to Family Art Days, CAC has other ongoing free outreach programs including Teen Arts Group, Art Visits, and a Youth Arts Outreach Program in partnership with the Duneland Boys & Girls Club and YMCA. These outreach programs support CAC’s mission of creating accessible, enriching arts programming for the local community and beyond.
