In honor of Martin Luther King Day, Chesterton Art Center welcomes the public on Monday, January 15 to MLK Day: Art Builds Community, a free event celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through learning and artmaking together. Participants may attend any time between 10AM and 2PM CST.
With guidance from the CAC team, folks can partake in free art activities inspired by Dr. King’s work on civic engagement, creating change, and building community. Activities will include a collaborative weaving project, personalized “secret message” cards, zinemaking, and a story corner with books and resources about social and racial justice. This event is free + all ages are welcome.
“We’re thrilled to host this event and bring members of our community together,” says Jillian Bridgeman, Education Director at Chesterton Art Center. “Attendees are encouraged to learn and reflect about the work of Dr. King while creating meaningful artworks with one another. Art is such a great way to communicate and tell stories that bring us together to cultivate change.”
Chesterton Art Center believes that learning through artmaking and togetherness has the power to strengthen individuals, families, and communities. MLK Day: Art Builds Community is a free event, but pre-registration is required. Please visit chestertonart.org/youth-and-teen-classes for more information and to register.
