Canterbury Summer Theatre presents the musical comedy, I Love You,You're Perfect, Now Change, performing July 7-17. The theatre is located at 807 Franklin Street in Michigan City.
With book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music by Jimmy Roberts, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change is the longest running Off-Broadway revue in history, and was recently updated and revised by the authors to reflect dating in current times.
In 1995, the musical premiered at New Jersey's American Stage Company, where, in the middle of one early performance, a woman in the audience couldn't help but blurt out, "This is my life!" From that moment on, the creators knew they were on to something.
This celebration of the mating game takes on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum known as 'the relationship. The revue pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen on their face at the portal of romance, to those who have dared to ask, 'Say, what are you doing Saturday night?'
The musical has been showcased in more than 250 cities worldwide, including London, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam, Sydney, Seoul, Rio de Janeiro and Johannesburg. In addition to its enormous success, the Off-Broadway production was the site of over fifty marriage proposals.
The production is staged by Canterbury veteran, Lari Renee Leber, who returns to direct her second show after helming last season's Vanities: The Musical. Leber recently received her MA in Theatre from Louisiana Tech University.
Musical direction is by Ellen Perkins. Anna Holmes serves as choreographer, as well as starring in the cast.
Also featured in the production are Grace Cummings, Jacob Ryan Martinez. and Bailey Roberts.
Scenic design is by David White, with lighting by Austin Ferrari. Jakob Innes and Sarah Schwarz provide costume design and Megan Ross will be production stage manager.
The Canterbury Resident Company is comprised of theatre artists hired from throughout the country, who produce a eight-week season of musicals, plays and thrillers in downtown Michigan City, as has been the case since 1969.
