Canterbury Summer Theatre premieres the first musical of its 2024 season with Love is a Many Splintered Thing, performing June 19-29. The theatre is located at 807 Franklin Street in Michigan City.

The show is written by by Dorothy Marcic with musical arrangements by Tony Award winner Hinton Battle.

Love is a Many Splintered Thing is a fast-paced and unique work about relationships, looked at through nostalgic Top 40 hit songs of the past four decades. A company of six takes the audience on a journey from high school through adulthood, tracing the paths that each friend eventually follows. Incorporating established song lyrics to tell a new story in a unique way, Featured music includes recognizable hits from everyone from Neil Diamond to Cher, Connie Francis to Elton John, and Liza Minnelli to India.Arie.

The production is staged by Canterbury Artistic Director, Ray Scott Crawford. Choreography is by Elena Farley.

Returning for his fifth season as Canterbury music director is John Berst, a faculty member of the University of Miami musical theatre training program.

The cast includes J. Cole Becton, Landon Brewer, Noah Bryant, Elena Farley, Cherilyn Percy and Angel Purl, who are all newcomers to Canterbury this season.

Scenic design is by Crawford with lighting by Robin Eaken. Julia Parr provides costume design and Astrophel Herr will be production stage manager.

The Canterbury Resident Company is comprised of theatre artists hired from throughout the country, which has produced a season of musicals and plays in downtown Michigan City since 1969.

Canterbury performances are at 2:00 PM on Wednesdays, and Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:00 pm. Regular admission price is $20.00, $18.00 for seniors (62 and above), and $10.00 for students and military.
