Cancer Resource Centre Programs for Week of October 10th

The Cancer Resource Centre offers free educational programs and in-person/virtual mind/body/spirit classes and support groups to individuals in Northwest Indiana with a cancer diagnosis, their family members and their caregivers.

The Centre is located at 926 Ridge Road in Munster, Indiana. Registration is required. For information about joining a support group and to schedule your orientation, please call 219-836-3349 or visit www.cancerresourcecentre.com.

Yoga, Monday October 10, offered from 9 – 10 a.m. Breathe and stretch your body and mind. Yoga classes are therapeutic as well as restorative. Class will conclude with a relaxation segment to enhance overall well-being and peace.

Sound Healing, Monday October 10, offered from 11 – 12 p.m. The pure sounds of the crystal bowls will wash away stress and still the mind. Wear loose clothing; bring a blanket and pillow for comfort.

Reiki/Reflexology, Monday October 10, offered 1 – 3 p.m. by appointment only. Reiki complements all other healing arts; Reflexology, the practice of treating the whole body by touching the feet and sometimes the palms, is an especially valuable example of a therapy that complements Reiki successfully.

Wellness Support Group, Tuesday October 11, offered from 10 – 11 a.m. or 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. This support group meets to share feelings, receive support and learn ways to cope with the experience of having cancer.

Breast Cancer Support Group, Tuesday October 11, offered from 6 – 7p.m. For all with a breast cancer diagnosis. Newly diagnosed to long term survivors are welcome to share their concerns, stories and experiences.

Lung Cancer Support Group, Wednesday October 12, offered 10 – 11 a.m. For all with a lung cancer diagnosis are invited to come together to share their experiences and concerns.

Physician Lecture, Wednesday October 12, offered from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. These FREE sessions for cancer patients and their loved ones are available in-person at the Cancer Resource Centre or virtually for your convenience. Masks mandatory for in-person attendance. Presentation: Breast Cancer Informational Session, Rozina Chowdhery, MD, Oncology/Hematology

Yoga, Wednesday October 12, offered from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Breathe and stretch your body and mind. Yoga classes are therapeutic as well as restorative. Class will conclude with a relaxation segment to enhance overall well-being and peace.

Chi Gong, Thursday October 13, offered from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Learn this ancient healing art of breath, movement, non-movement and meditation. Experience this therapeutic form of Eastern medicine and feel revitalized. You will be led through a one hour session of warm-ups, positions and focused movements.

Knit One . . . Nurture Too, Thursday October 13, offered from 1 – 2:30 p.m. Join our fun-filled class for knitting and crocheting blankets, hats, scarves, etc. All skill levels are welcome. Supplies are provided or you may bring your own.

Chair Yoga, Thursday October 13, offered from 2 – 3 p.m. Designed for those who have difficulty support in a regular yoga environment. You may sit or use a chair for balance. Kriya is a holistic, whole body experience; it works to calm the nervous system; strengthens and quiets the mind and body.

Tai Chi, Friday October 14, offered 9 – 10 a.m. Tai Chi has been practiced for centuries by men and women of all ages and fitness levels. The art of Tai Chi is considered “Meditation in Motion”. Classes emphasize balance, posture, breathing techniques, concentration and complete relaxation.

Nature Journaling, Friday October 14, offered 10:30 – 12 p.m. Nature journaling builds creativity, critical thinking and calmness. This activity can be done outdoors or indoors, in your own back yard, neighborhood park or even online.
