The Cancer Resource Centre PROGRAMS FOR WEEK OF April 14, 2022

The Cancer Resource Centre offers free educational programs and in-person/virtual mind/body/spirit classes and support groups to individuals in Northwest Indiana with a cancer diagnosis, their family members and their caregivers. The Centre is located at 926 Ridge Road in Munster, Indiana. Registration is required. Yoga, Monday June 20, offered from 9 – 10 a.m. Breathe and stretch your body and mind. Yoga classes are therapeutic as well as restorative. Class will conclude with a relaxation segment to enhance overall well-being and peace.

Music Wellness, Monday June 20, offered from 3-4 p.m. A therapeutic music program to enhance quality of life by supporting the health and wellbeing of cancer patients which can lead to stress and anxiety reduction and enhance relaxation.

Empowerment Drumming, Monday June 20, offered from 4-5 p.m. Drumming is healing, rejuvenating and invigorates the immune system. It helps individuals take an active and meaningful role in the healing process, helping to put back into one's life what is missing to become whole again.

Wellness Support Group, Tuesday June 21, offered from 10 – 11 a.m. This support group meets to share feelings, receive support and learn ways to cope with the experience of having cancer.

Kitchen Rx, Tuesday June 21, offered from 2 – 3 p.m. The food choices we make have a huge impact on our overall health, but we don't always make healthy eating a priority. We think eating healthy is too expense, too difficult and takes too much time. The truth is a few small, simple changes can yield HUGE results in overall health. Choosing more real, nutrient dense foods has been shown to be even more beneficial than medication in helping manage and even reverse some of the symptoms of chronic disease. Food is one of the most powerful medicines we have in achieving optimum health, and the kitchen is our pharmacy. In this year-long healthy eating series, Mrs. Dornberg will provide information, tools and actionable steps that you can use to shop, cook and eat your way to better health.

Healing Hearts Support Group, Wednesday June 22, offered 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. provides an opportunity for those who have lost a loved one to share experiences, struggles, feelings and triumphs. Healing Hearts support group offers helpful information and support in a comfortable atmosphere and facilitated by a bereavement facilitator from Hospice of Calumet Area.

Hope Network Support Group, Wednesday June 22, offered from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary Medical Valparaiso Health Center. For cancer patients and caregivers come for educational sessions and support to share thoughts, feelings and ideas.

Chi Gong, Thursday June 23, offered from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Learn this ancient healing art of breath, movement, non-movement and meditation. Experience this therapeutic form of Eastern medicine and feel revitalized. You will be led through a one hour session of warm-ups, positions and focused movements.

Knit One . . . Nurture Too, Thursday June 23, offered from 1 – 2:30 p.m. Join our fun-filled class for knitting and crocheting blankets, hats, scarves, etc. All skill levels are welcome. Supplies are provided or you may bring your own.

Chair Yoga, Thursday June 23, offered from 2 – 3 p.m. Designed for those who have difficulty support in a regular yoga environment. You may sit or use a chair for balance. Kriya is a holistic, whole body experience; it works to calm the nervous system; strengthens and quiets the mind and body.

Tai Chi, Friday June 24, offered from 9 – 10 a.m. Tai Chi has been practiced for centuries by men and women of all ages and fitness levels. The art of Tai Chi is considered “Meditation in Motion”. Classes emphasize balance, posture, breathing techniques, concentration and complete relaxation.
