Bishop Noll junior Isabelle Taillon has a talent for ceramics and her pieces have been displayed throughout the Region. At the South Suburban College Regional High School Art Exhibit this winter, Taillon’s ceramic teapot set won two awards.

“It made me very very happy to see my items on display and out there for people to see. What made me exceptionally overjoyed was walking on stage and receiving awards for them,” said Taillon, of Whiting.

Taillon’s ceramics pieces are currently on display at the Munster Center for Visual & Performing Arts.

In her ceramics class at BNI, Taillon has learned patience.

“I have learned a lot about ceramics and the patience you have to have in order for your pieces to be pleasing. In my opinion it takes a lot of time, effort, and creativity to make something of my liking and what I’m happy with, especially with clay since anything could happen," Taillon said.

Taillon is a joy to have as an art student, said her teacher Jennifer Gwiazda. “She is a highly creative and reflective artist. Isabelle takes her time to carry out her ideas with high quality craftsmanship - her work is clean and intricate and demonstrates a lot of skill. She picks up techniques quickly and puts her own unique touch to everything that she does whether it is with 2D Art or Ceramics.”

Ceramics is a popular course at Bishop Noll and students get to create pinch bowls, coil pots, slab boxes and more. Students then apply all of the techniques they learn throughout the course with a final project of their choice.

“Isabelle actually took Ceramics for a 2nd semester and created her winning tea pot as well as wheel thrown cups to accompany the set. Students may take the course multiple times and complete more advanced work while learning even more techniques,” Gwiazda said.
