Art Barn School of Art’s 7th annual Art Blitz fall festival on Saturday, September 16 highlights Art Barn’s educational art offerings with a full range of participatory activities, and collaborations with other arts organizations. The festival is designed to encourage visitors and residents of all ages to actively engage in various art activities between 9:00am to 5:00pm CDT at 695 N. 400 E. in Porter County.  Parking and admission are free as well as all demonstrations. Activity tickets may be purchased at the gate for participatory activities to help offset the cost of supplies.

“The collaborative nature of our event is what makes our festival unique,” states executive director Amy Davis Navardauskas. “And, many of our activities provide a window into the educational opportunities we offer year-round, so the event is a great way to check out what we have to offer.”

Ongoing participatory activities include: An interactive monarch mural or sunflower canvas, chair painting (with a limited quantity of small chairs to choose from), painting with alcohol inks, a scavenger hunt and our lego free-building station.

Navardauskas continues, “we have valued partners in the community who are invited to engage with our Art Blitz visitors. We ask as many that can to provide a creative or interactive element at their booth.” Participating partners will be on-site with activities including: Humane Indiana Wildlife will bring animal ambassadors, Shirley Heinze Land Trust will guide nature hikes, Opportunity Enterprises will exhibit works by their students who attend weekly art classes at Art Barn, and South Shore Convention & Visitors Authority will be here to promote their missions as well.

Live performances are scheduled all weekend long and include music, magic, and story-telling. Other diversions include our new hayride, unicorn sightings, face painting, a scavenger hunt and more.

Various artists will demonstrate their processes in wheel throwing and hand-building with clay, pastels, photography, and painting in plein air and watercolor. All demonstrations are free.

More information with maps and a schedule of all activities can be found at artbarnschool.org.
