April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Throughout April, the Munster Police Department will be joining with many other law enforcement agencies across the United States to raise awareness about distracted driving.

Did you know that 60% of teen crashes involve driver distraction? These include interacting with one or more passengers (15%), using a cell phone (12%), looking at something in the vehicle (10%), looking at something outside the vehicle (9%), singing/dancing to music (8%), grooming (6%), and reaching for an object (6%).

Please speak with your teens about the importance of staying off of their phones along with the need for pay attention at all times while they are driving. Looking down at their phone just once could result in a tragedy.  The image pictured to the right is displayed on the back of our D.A.R.E. Officer’s vehicle (the vehicle wrap was generously sponsored by Bowman Displays & Digital Imaging).
