The annual Munster Snowflurry event returned this year for the first time since 2020 and was held Saturday, March 18th at Wilbur Wright Middle School.
The event is held as a cooperative effort between the schools and the Munster Police Department and promotes drug prevention and the importance of treating others with respect and kindness. The event has been held for approximately 30 years in Munster.

This year’s event involved approximately 260 fifth grade students who were led in a variety of activities by almost 100 Munster High School student leaders. These activities included games, small group mentoring, watching a skit performed by the high school students, snacks, shirt signings, and a craft station that was run by the Munster Junior Woman’s Club. Their organization annually participates in our event by asking the students to decorate delivery bags with positive messages for Meals on Wheels recipients. Over 1,000 bags were decorated this year. In addition, their club made each of the hundreds of “warm fuzzy” necklaces that were worn by the students and staff members that day.
We would like to thank Amy Mohr (an Elliott/Frank Hammond parent) and Sandra Pietruszka (Wilbur Wright MS nurse) for being on-site throughout the morning to assist the students when needed. Their assistance was very much appreciated. We would also like to thank the Munster Junior Woman’s Club for their great partnership and support, Munster Donut, Jewel Osco (donated grocery bags), our many dedicated high school student volunteers for making it a fun and memorable day for our students, and our staff members who came out to support the event that day. We also would like to thank the custodial staff at Wilbur Wright Middle School for their assistance throughout this very busy weekend.
We hope that the students had a great time and look forward to next year’s event. Thanks to the parents for your support
