SAVE THE DATE: CLIMATE LEADERSHIP SUMMIT 8
As we witness the devastating impacts of the climate crisis unfolding around us, it can be easy to be discouraged. Heat waves, droughts, floods and other extreme weather events are becoming frequent, affecting us all in one way or another.
The Climate Leadership Summit is an annual statewide conference specially designed for mayors, city, town, county and community leaders to strengthen our climate resiliency at the local level. This year’s focus will be on tools for regional resiliency plans and federal funding opportunities for our communities.
CLS8 is coming to Northwest Indiana for the first time and is hosted by Earth Charter Indiana, the City of Gary, the City of Portage, NIRPC, the Michigan City Commission on Sustainability, and Indiana University Northwest. This year we will convene our second gathering of Sustainability Commissioners as well as the first convening of Hoosier City and Town Councilors for Climate Action. CLS8 is also hosting a Youth Leaders session where student climate champions can discuss issues, share their work and network.
The night before CLS8, Earth Charter Indiana and NWI Green Drinks are co-hosting a free screening of two short documentary films about the region; “Shifting Sands” and “Liminal.” Join us for that double feature on Sept 7. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the films start at 7 p.m. You can get your “first-come-first-served" tickets through the link below.
