Milwaukee 1 Gary SouthShore 0

An unearned run in the bottom of the third inning was the difference in a game where both starters threw complete games as the Milkmen (33-20) edged the Railcats (23-30) 1-0 on Friday night.  Tony Rosselli reached on an error in the third and scored on a Brett Vertigan groundout off Gary SouthShore starter Trevor Lubking (CG, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 7 K).  That was all Milwaukee’s Myles Smith (CG, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 K) would need.

Kansas City 3 Kane County 1

Colin Willis had a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh as the Monarchs (33-18) came back in a pitchers’ duel to beat the Cougars (26-28) 3-1 on Friday night.  Trailing since the second, Willis’ knock scored Gabriel Guerrero and Charcer Burks for the lead.  Jan Hernandez added insurance for Kansas City with a solo homer in the eighth while Kane County was limited to two hits on the night by Justin Shafer and three relievers.

Chicago 13 Houston 4

A seven-run first inning ensured that the Dogs (33-21) would easily keep pace with Milwaukee with a 13-4 win over the Apollos (7-44) on Friday night.  Six singles and a double in the first inning gave Chicago the early lead before Anfernee Grier drove home two with a triple in the second and Danny Mars’ two-run shot in the third made it 11-0.  Yelier Peguero and Brian Dansereau had two-run singles for Houston, who has lost thirteen straight.

Fargo-Moorhead 16 Winnipeg 6

An early onslaught, including seven runs in the third inning, made for a comfortable night for the RedHawks (30-24) in a 16-6 win over the Goldeyes (25-27) on Friday night.  Nick Novak broke a 1-1 tie in the second with a single, and in the third, Fargo-Moorhead scored seven runs on eight hits while sending twelve men to the plate.  Another three runs scored in the sixth and one more in the seventh for a 14-1 lead.  Kyle Martin hit a three-run eighth inning home run for Winnipeg in the loss.

Lincoln 7 Sioux Falls 6

Yanio Perez drove home Gunnar Buhner with a tiebreaking single in the ninth as the Saltdogs (26-27) edged the Canaries (21-32) by a 7-6 margin on Friday night.  In a seesaw game, Lincoln took an early 4-0 lead, which included a solo homer by Josh Altmann, only to have Sioux Falls score five in the fourth for a 5-4 lead.  In a 5-5 game in the eighth, Lincoln scored a run in the top half, which was matched in the bottom half, setting up Perez’ hit that decided the game.

Sioux City 7 Cleburne 5

The Explorers (31-23) built a three-run lead early, then staved off a pair of rallies to beat the Railroaders (29-23) by a 7-5 count on Friday night.  After a groundout opened the scoring in the first for Sioux City, Sebastien Zawada and Lane Milligan each homered in the second for a 3-0 lead.  Hunter Clanin doubled home a run and later scored on an error for Cleburne to cut the lead to 3-2, the first of two times the Railroaders would get within a run without tying the game at any point.
