Kansas City 9 Milwaukee 5 F/7

In a matchup of division leaders, mother nature cut the game short as the Monarchs (57-28) used a 14-hit barrage to defeat the Milkmen (51-33) by a 9-5 score in seven innings at Legends Field.  Morgan McCollough finished a single shy of the cycle, and Casey Gillaspie had two doubles and two runs scored for Kansas City.  Brett Vertigan and Christ Conley each homered for Milwaukee, who fell behind Chicago in the north division standings.

Sioux City 4 Cleburne 2

Three solo home runs were enough for the Explorers (44-41) as they defeated the Railroaders (44-39) by a 4-2 score on Friday night.  Blake Tiberi opened the scoring with a solo shot in the second for Sioux Falls, and in the third Michael Lang followed suit with a solo homer of his own.  In a 2-2 game after Chase Simpson’s two-run double in the sixth for Cleburne, D.J. Poteet put the Explorers ahead for good with the third solo shot of the game.

Fargo-Moorhead 15 Houston 1

Manny Boscan homered, scored five runs, and drove in four as part of a 5-for-6 performance, Kevin Krause was 4-for-4 with a homer, two runs scored and six knocked in as the Redhawks (50-35) routed the Apollos (13-71) 15-1 on Friday night.  Leobaldo Pina and John Silviano also homered for Fargo-Moorhead as part of a 19-hit attack.  Jordan Pontious doubled and scored the only run for Houston in the first inning.

Chicago 3 Gary SouthShore 1

A two-run first inning gave the Dogs (52-32) the early lead, and behind the dominant pitching of starter Michael Bowden, the lead held up in a 3-1 win over the Railcats (33-52) on Friday night.  K.C. Hobson drove in Brennan Metzger with a sacrifice fly and a bases loaded walk gave Chicago a 2-0 lead.  Anfernee Grier drove home T.J. Bennett with a single in the fourth for a 3-0 lead and from there, Bowden took over in going six innings of one-hit, shutout ball while striking out seven.  Jose Mercado homered for Gary SouthShore.

Sioux Falls 5 Lincoln 0

Tyler Garkow tossed six shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six, as the Canaries (34-51) beat the Saltdogs (45-39) by a 5-0 count on Friday evening.  Mike Hart and Daryl Myers scored on Garrett Hope’s single in the second for Sioux Falls before a Wyatt Ulrich single made it 3-0 in the fourth.  Myers then scored Cade Gotta with a fifth-inning single, and Ulrich added another run-scoring single in the sixth.
