The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) will hold a 21-day public comment period on an amendment to the 2024-2028 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The comment period begins September 11 and will end on October 2, 2024. Amendment #24-03 contains:
For INDOT – 29 Projects:
· 13 Pavement/Roadway Rehabilitation
o 5 Adding significant amount of funds
o 8 Carry Over from Previous TIP
· 5 Intersection Modifications
o 2 Carry over from previous TIP
o 3 Adding significant amount of funds
· 3 Bridge Projects,
o 1 Bridge Rehabilitation (Adding significant amount of funds)
o 1 New Bridges (replacing at grade railroad crossings - Carry over from previous TIP)
o 1 Bridge Replacement (Adding significant amount of funds)
· 2 Small Structure Replacements (Adding significant amount of funds)
· 5 Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) projects
o 5 Carry over from previous TIP
· 1 Other Type Projects (New Project)
For locally sponsored projects – 10 Projects for the municipalities of Crown Point (1), La Porte (1), La Porte County (5), Portage (2), Porter County (1):
· 1 Intersection Improvement (Carry over from previous TIP)
· 2 Bicycle/Pedestrian Enhancement
o 1 Project Deletion
o 1 Adding significant amount of funds
· 3 Bridge Projects
o 2 Bridge Replacements (New Projects)
o 1 Bridge Rehabilitation (Adding phase)
· 3 Other type projects
o 2 Carry over from previous TIP
o 1 New Project
· 1 New Road project
o Moved funding from on year to another
NIRPC’s TIP is a short-range financial and spending plan for the utilization of federal transportation funding and for regionally significant projects. These federal funds can be used for highway, transit, and non-motorized transportation projects. NIRPC's TIP includes projects undertaken by municipalities, counties, transit operators, and the State of Indiana. Federal planning regulations guide the preparation and development of the TIP documents. Projects may be viewed either by the attached project list or by going to https://rtip.nirpc.org/.

All comments received during the 21-day public comment period will be compiled into a public comment report and responded to. This report will be made available to the public and distributed to the relevant NIRPC committees prior to any action on these items. It is anticipated that action will be taken at the October 1, 2024 meeting of the Transportation Committee, followed by the October 17, 2024 meeting of the NIRPC Commission.
