60 Years of RSMT took place May 17 and 18 at Reinhart Auditorium in Merrillville, Indiana. RSMT (Ross Summer Music Theatre) known for six decades of quality theatre did not disappoint!
Performers, both current and alumni, took the audience on a fantastic, entertaining tour through 60 years of musicals from Annie Get Your Gun (RSMT’s first performance) to Memphis (RSMT’s upcoming production). The show moved quickly through featured musicals too numerous to list here. Some favorite musicals included: Oklahoma!, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Fiddler on the Roof, Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Les Miserables, and Bye Bye Birdie, just to name a few.
Video clips and photos of past performances were projected behind the performers, many in costume. An In Memoriam video was a touching tribute to former RSMT “family” members who have passed away.
The only disappointment was that there was no program. Although a program would have been nice to have as a keepsake of the occasion and a guide to 60 years of musicals and the performers, it was a magical, memorable night. Here’s to 60 more years of RSMT!
