*** Recommended *** Black Ensemble Theatre’s latest production, "My Brother Langston" is a play with music, a tribute to poet and civil rights leader, Langston Hughes, written and directed by Rueben Echoles.  Based on the title, I thought this would be a bio play about Hughes, but it’s much more autobiographical, with Hughes (brilliantly portrayed by actor Chris Taylor) telling his own story.  The production struggles –his life story jumps willy-nilly from personal relationships to the Harlem Renaissance and back again, but the moments of his poetry shine brightly.  3 Spotlights

The 2022-23 MLS NEXT regular season, the third season of play for the burgeoning youth league, kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 10, and will feature 628 teams competing in nearly 8,000 matches over a ten-month calendar. Over 13,000 players from the country’s leading 137 clubs, including all 29 MLS academies, will play in up to six age groups: U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, and U19.
 

Kankakee Valley REMC (KV REMC) recently donated $5,000 to Opportunity Enterprises’ (OE) Building Opportunities campaign. The non-profit energy cooperative located in Wanatah was able to secure an additional $5,000 for OE through a cash match grant from CoBank’s Sharing Success program.
