Water Quality Monitoring Training is Soon!

Play a crucial role in keeping our waterways clean.

We are calling all volunteers, seasoned and new, to help us keep our local ponds, lakes, streams, rivers, and Lake Michigan cleaner! Join us on April 5, 2025, from 10am-12pm CT at the Little Calumet River-Galien watershed to learn about nature with us.

Trainees will learn how to collect samples and use provided equipment under the guidance of Shirley Heinze staff to collect waterway data in Northwestern Indiana. The water monitoring season runs from April 2025 to October 2025.

This training is designed to actively involve community members, students, educators, and a broad array of local partners in the preservation of our watershed. By engaging in the monitoring of critical sites, educational outreach about the significance of maintaining water quality, and organizing public events, we aim to foster a sense of stewardship for our community’s watersheds. The data collected through these activities is crucial for developing effective conservation strategies and underscores the importance of protecting our local water quality.

Volunteers must be adults over 18 years old, or children at least 15 years old with an adult present.
