The public is invited to take part in art activities and nature walks with Shirley Heinze Land Trust and community partners at the Nature in the Arts event, “Printmaking & Plein Air.” This free, all-ages event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT (9 a.m. to noon CDT) Saturday, August 3 at Lydick Bog Nature Preserve, located at 25898 US-20, South Bend, IN 46628.

Visitors can make a multimedia print with the South Bend Museum of Art. Prints can be optionally provided to the museum to be put on display at their new printmaking studio. Participants can also learn about and create their own plein air landscapes with the Northern Indiana Pastel Society.

Guided hikes led by Shirley Heinze staff and volunteers will take place at 10:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 11:30 a.m. EDT to show the bog’s unique and rare ecosystem. “This is a great opportunity for families and residents to visit Lydick Bog Nature Preserve, connect with local wetlands and waterways, and enjoy a variety of art activities,” says Mari Patis, Programs Coordinator at Shirley Heinze Land Trust.

Cloud Walking Coffee will have cold brew coffee, juice, and light snacks available for purchase. Additionally, local musicians Christopher Lods and Mark Snell will provide live music throughout the day.

This event is free and open to all ages. Parking, accessible restrooms, and water will be available. For more information, contact Mari Patis at (219) 242-8558 or mpatis@heinzetrust.org.
