May 19,1681 French explorer Robert de La Salle held a peace council with Miami Indians at the area now known as South Bend
May 20,1863 The “Battle of Pogue’s Run” took place in Indianapolis. Not an actual battle, the name refers to an incident during the Civil War when Southern Loyalists were forced to throw their weapons out of the windows of a train traveling along Pogue’s Run, a creek which runs southwest through the city.
