The McAninch Arts Center (MAC) begins its 2024-2025 Performance Series with Showtime Australia’s presentation of PROUD Tina: “The Ultimate Tribute to Tina Turner” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept.7. South African-born songstress Caroline Borole performs Turner’s powerful vocals on backed by a high-octane band and sensational backup singers and dancers in this 2 hour and 30-minute production. A free pre-show season kick-off party will take place before the show at 6:30 p.m. in the MAC lobby.

In its Chicago-area debut, PROUD Tina: “The Ultimate Tribute to Tina Turner” provides an electrifying concert experience of Tina Turner (1939-2023) and her biggest hits from the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s including “River Deep…Mountain High,” “Proud Mary,” “Private Dancer,” “What’s Love Got to Do With It” and more. Commonly known as the Queen of Rock and Roll, throughout her lifetime, Turner sold more than 100 million records worldwide, received 12 Grammys, was the first black woman to grace the cover of Rolling Stone and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice (once with Ike Turner, once as herself).

Music has influenced lead singer Borole her entire life. Her lust for performing began at the ripe age of 10 once she was introduced to Turner’s 60s album “The Soul of Ike & Tina Turner.” Borole became focused on pursuing a musical career immediately after winning her high school talent show. She went on to land roles in national television shows and musicals. Borole joined Showtime Australia as a backup singer for tribute shows to Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson. When the company announced a new production paying tribute to Turner, Borole knew this was her moment to shine. She was cast in the lead of PROUD Tina in 2017, as her raspy and extraordinarily powerful voice perfectly represented the character. Borole has been performing as Turner in this production all over the globe ever since.
