David Monroe Shoup, born in Battle Ground, Indiana, was a general of the United States Marine Corps. He was awarded the Medal of Honor in World War II. General Shoup also served as the 22nd Commandant of the Marine Corps.
Opha May Johnson, born in Kokomo, Indiana, was the first woman known to have enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.
George Rogers Clark, A prominent Revolutionary War general, Clark is best known for leading the 1779 expedition that captured the British-held forts at Vincennes and Fort Sackville, effectively securing the Northwest Territory for the United States. His actions were pivotal in the Western theater of the war.
