Kathy Chaney is a newsroom veteran with more than two decades of experience, Chaney is a passionate advocate for the Black press and newsroom diversity.
Upon joining the team on October 1, 2024, Kathy stated that she is, "excited to be working with a team who understands that community journalism is the core mission of everything. It's always been the driving force throughout my career. My immediate goal will be to strengthen the bonds I'm forming in the newsroom and build strong relationships in the community."
Prior to joining The Times, Kathy served as exective editor for YR media. Before that, she was deputy managing editor for breaking news and staff development at the Chicago Sun-Times, managing editor for EBONY magazine, and the managing editor at the Chicago Defender.
