South Shore Arts is excited to host “Climate Follies,” a comedy about the unfunniest thing ever, the climate crisis. “Climate Follies,” will take place on Thursday, August 11, at 7pm in the Main Gallery at South Shore Arts, 1040 Ridge Rd, Munster, IN 46321. Before the performance guests are invited to view the exhibit “Nature Lovers” on display in the gallery.

“Climate Follies,” a new play written by Jim Poyser, consists of over a dozen short plays that explore aspects of our unraveling climate system and the human response. The program is presented as a staged reading by audience members participating in any one of the 12 selected works that make up Climate Follies. Participants will be directed by John Green, professor in the Theatre Department at Columbia College Chicago, where he teaches Stage Directing and is Co-Director of the Graduate program in European Devised Performance Practice.

Members of the audience can sit back and enjoy the show or choose to participate in presenting the pieces, creating an event during which everyone in attendance can determine the extent and quality of their involvement.

“Climate Follies” premiered at the Indianapolis Fringe Festival in 2021. A staged reading at the Lubeznik Art Center in Michigan City in May was the first part of a public process leading to a fully staged production of Climate Follies to be produced in Northwest Indiana by Victory Dog Productions.

Both the playwright, Jim Poyser, and director John Green will be in attendance. They will also participate in a Q&A session with the audience during the course of the performance.
