August 4, 1823 Oliver Hazard Perry Throck Morton, first Indiana born man to hold the office of Indiana Governor, born in Salisbury.

Answers:     1. It was named by Joseph Thornton of Leavenworth for one of Napoleon's victories over the Austrians in 1800 at Marengo, Italy.     2. It was named to honor Lowe the engineer of the first train through the town, and Gootee, for the founder and owner of the land where the town was built.     3. Crackaway     4. It was named for Toussaint Dubois, a French soldier who fought with General William Henry Harrison at Tippecanoe.
