The Munster Police Department was recently notified by the National Association of Town Watch that their organization has ranked Munster's 2024 National Night Out Celebration as the #2 event in the United States for our population category of 15,000-50,000 people. The National Night Out is celebrated each August in hundreds of communities throughout the United States in an effort to promote positive police and community partnerships. Our town received a commemorative plaque this week to display at our police station.
This past year's activities included a Community Parade and Main Celebration at the Munster Community Pool (including a record 150 booth participants and fireworks sponsored by Krazy Kaplan's) on August 6th which were preceded during that same week by a number of pre-events such as a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, Senior Safety Bingo Event, Canned Food Drive, Car Seat Check Event, and our annual Block Party Contest which was held in many areas all throughout town. Our Project 365, which is always an important part of our National Night Out efforts, included the creation of our Community Mural Project which was completed with the assistance of many dedicated volunteers throughout the summer months with the goal of promoting unity amongst our town's residents.
These activities attracted our highest participation ever from throughout our community and we appreciate everyone who attended, sponsored, or volunteered their time. We also appreciate the large number of Town of Munster employees and officials for their hard work, attendance, and support of our efforts that week. We would also like to especially thank the dedicated members of the Choice Community Council who planned this past year's event..
Munster's National Night Out Celebration continues to be ranked as one of the best events in the United States each year thanks to excellent support and participation from throughout our community. We look forward to beginning plans this spring for our 30TH ANNUAL National Night Out Celebration that will take place later this year. Thank you again to everyone who helped to make this past year's National Night Out Celebration a fun and memorable evening for our community!
